Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
