The White House disclosed the initiation of government employee terminations on the end of the week, following through on earlier warnings linked to the continuing federal funding lapse, which is now poised to extend into its third consecutive week.

Formal Statement and Initial Details

Russell Vought posted on a public platform that “RIFs have begun,” indicating the official procedure for terminating staff.

Although the official did not specify which agencies were impacted, a representative from the Treasury Department stated that notices had been issued within that agency. Additionally, a Department of Homeland Security representative indicated that layoffs would also occur at the CISA. Also, a labor organization for federal workers announced that members at the Education Department would be affected by the staff cuts.

Union Response and Legal Challenges

Union leaders cautions that the layoffs would have “devastating effects” on public services used by millions of Americans and vowed to contest the moves in the legal system.
